Personal History: When Lila was very young, her father passed away. His wife became mentally ill and was unable to feed or care for Lila or her sister Laxmi, who is one year older. At age three, Lila was placed in Balmandir Orphanage, along with her sister. Lila and Laxmi spend the Dashain holiday back at the orphanage. Lately, the mother has visited the girls, but she is still unable to care for them.

What makes me special?: Lila is an energetic, fun-loving, athletic girl. Her best friends are Saraswoti and Shakya, and she especially loves basketball, badminton, and knitting. Her favorite food is pizza and her favorite colors are blue and pink. Her life ambition is to become a “good teacher” who helps children “learn to write their letters.” (She is a great writer; she writes her sponsors from both herself and her sister.) Lila is in the 4th grade and is very bright; she is ranked near the top of her class for 3rd grade.
