23. Man Bahadur (Age 15)

Personal History: The fact that Man is with us at all is a miracle in itself; his entire family was killed in a landslide when he was a small child. He was rescued and was the sole survivor. Man was brought to the Balmandir Orphanage by an uncle, who does not keep in contact with Man.

What makes me special?: “Man” means “respect” and “Bahadur” means “brave” in Nepalese. Man Bahadur is in the 7th grade and is a bright, hardworking student. He is a happy, active boy who loves to sing and play soccer. His favorite music is “rock and roll” and “Nepalese pop.” His ambition is to play soccer, but his “plan B” is to be in hotel management. He is bright and hardworking and ranks in the top third of his class. He expresses love and gratitude to his sponsors. If they could come to visit him, he says that he would show them folk dances and take them to visit Nepal’s most beautiful places.
