Personal History: When Bishnu was a baby, both her father and her mother died. For some time, an aunt cared for Bishnu and her brother. However, the aunt was so desperately impoverished that she became unable to care for them. The aunt requested that the government take them, and they were brought to the Balmandir Orphanage at an unknown time. The children have lost contact with the aunt, so now Bishnu spends the long Dashain holiday at the orphanage.

What makes me special?: Bishnu is kind-hearted, shy and always smiling. She especially likes to dance, sing and play basketball. Her life ambition is to become a dancer or a “business woman.” She has a hunger for learning, always scoring at the top of her class until last year, when she dropped to 12th of twenty students. When asked what makes her happy, she says “getting a letter from my mom and dad” (her sponsors). She expresses love and gratitude to her sponsors for getting her out of the orphanage, for her care and education. Her best friend (they are inseparable) is Barsa Rai.
